Drove to a museum at Shimane. To see an ongoing exhibition named BOX ART. The exhibition was like my origin as “original paintings of package of plastic model.” I seldom go to museum, but I felt like going to see it. When I was little, I used to imagine who and how draw these pictures. And I used to collect pictures of plastic model boxes. I cut the pictures and displayed them in my room. Toy shops that had a lot of displayed boxes of plastic models were museum for me then.
I drove the long way to the museum, feeling as if I drove to see my predecessor. I was excited with the modern looking museum at countryside. And the sign printed BOX ART stimulated my brain.
There were a lot of original pictures exhibited than I imagined and I felt the watercolor paintings on board afresh. I was glad to know I have a lot of great predecessors in Japan.
The pictures were various like bikes, tanks, battleships, and robots. And the artists were various too, but there was only a similarity that “all pictures had dreams.” All the pictures give children fantastic worlds. I walked around the museum, viewing the pictures one by one. So excited that I looked each exhibitions two times.
Now I could grasp challenge and difficulty of the artists from the form, colors, and touches. Those artists have been looking for ways to express since I was a child. That inspired me with courage.
It is happy that a child impressed in a small toyshop at countryside twenty year ago, become a painter now. And I was so lucky child to grow up with those wonderful pictures. I purely delighted that.
I'm coming my hometown, Shimono-seki, Yamaguchi. I'm going to enjoy the natural environment that I couldn't have in Tokyo.
When I was a pupil, I went down a river on a raft with friends. We made the raft and our flag, and put up the flag on the raft. From the top of the mountain to the sea, it was a long way. Our raft struck on crags again and again. Splashing and shrieking with laugher towards the sea.
At last, we went down the mountain and came across the clear sea. We dived into the sea with shouts of triumph. Floating on the sea, we enjoyed the achievement. Rapid river reminds me of the adventure still now.
I went to see shooting stars with my old friends. We could see the stars like planetarium, spreading ourselves on a beach. Listening to waves, we felt the Galaxy. Ten years have past since I left my hometown. I’ve forgotten these scenes for a long time. Country is spatial. I love it.
